FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Stuttering is a natural variation in the way some people speak. It is rooted in brain differences, often with a strong genetic basis, and affects the speaker’s control over the timing and rhythm of speech.  It is not a habit or a nervous response. Stuttering is highly variable and often those variations are unpredictable.

Stuttering therapy isn’t just about speech, but the whole experience of stuttering.  In addition to building fluency, we help with feelings, thoughts, and behaviors associated with stuttering.

  • Yes! Research (ASHA, 2023) shows children make the same great progress online as they do face-to-face.

    • Same proven methods. We use exactly the same evidence-based therapy techniques that we use in-person.

    • Similar activities. Instead of board games and tabletop toys, we use interactive games, drawing tools, and on-screen surprises kids love to play!

    • No travel, no waiting rooms, no stress. Online speech therapy happens from the comfort of home.

  • Maybe. It depends on your specific policy. If your insurance policy covers in-person speech therapy (whether in-network or out-of-network), virtual speech therapy will also be covered. Many policies exclude speech therapy that is not due to an accident, illness, or injury.

We’re happy to provide all the documentation you need for out-of-network reimbursement.

We are also an approved provider for the Family Empowerment Scholarship for Students with Unique Abilities (FES-UA).

  • Absolutely. School therapy can be a helpful resource, but educational speech therapy has many limitations. Parents are informed, but are not typically included in treatment. Private therapy gives your child more frequent, individualized attention and faster progress on specific goals. We happily collaborate with school SLPs and share progress notes so everyone is on the same team.

    • 100% focused attention. Every minute of the session belongs only to your child.

    • More practice time. Regular sessions vs. frequently missed sessions at school.

    • Specialized expertise. Deep focus on stuttering, articulation, or language.

    • Faster, visible results. Parents routinely say, “We saw more progress in 6 weeks privately than all last year at school.”

  • No commitment at all. During our free consultation, we’ll collect information about your child and your family’s priorities. We’ll decide whether therapy would help and if we’re a good it, with zero obligation to continue.

    • Honest feedback. We’ll tell you if your child is on track or could benefit from support.

    • Your decision. Some parents will walk away reassured and others will choose to start therapy. It’s always up to you.
